Matt McCoy's Custom Painted Lures
|
"I won that tournament with 6 fish that weighed 26 lbs, including Big Bass." |
It all started with a trip to the Boat, Sport and Travel Show. Matt McCoy and I were admiring some custom painted Suspending Rouges. Matt asked the dealer some questions about the painting process on the Rouges and he responded by telling him that it was a difficult process and that he probably couldn’t do it. I think Matt took that as a challenge! He started tinkering with the paint job on a few lures. He caught some really nice fish on a private lake with one of his painted Rouges. That gave me all the confidence I needed to try one of his Rouges that he custom painted for me. I had mentioned a color on a Rattletrap that a friend of mine was catching fish on at Patoka Reservoir. He took that color and painted a Suspending Rouge. He left the Rouge for me before he went on vacation. I took the Rouge to Monroe Reservoir for a UAW tournament. I won that tournament with 6 fish that weighed 26 lbs, including Big Bass. The guy with me was fishing the same Rouge with a factory paint job. He didn’t get a bite all day! There just happened to be several Bass-N-Gal anglers at the weigh-in. They asked me what I caught my fish on, and I showed them the Rouge. When Matt returned from vacation, I had several requests for the painted Rouge. Not only did the Bass-N-Gals request the Rouges, several of the UAW members did also. The demand expanded to other fishermen by word of mouth and the demand is still rising.
